Gold Coast

I bought a bag of Gold Coast yesterday at a local market. I paid 9 bucks for it (Ground) and immediately asked myself why I just paid 9 bucks for supermarket coffee. Oh well. I brought it home, opened the bag and smelled it. Not bad. A bold coffee. Their boldest blend. I brewed a pot and as soon as my shitty coffee maker stopped spitting out the remnants of the juice, I had a cup. Not bad. Not as good as the old French Roast, but not bad. I had two cups. My level of excitement didn't grow past "Not Bad" for the whole experience. The effed up thing is, is that I could have gone to Espresso News and gotten a pound of Kenya AA or Tanzanian Peaberry for a dollar less than I paid for "Not Bad". Jesus. Why do I do it? Why do I insist on patronizing a multi national conglomerate whore for more money than I could spend on some coffee with a little bang batta boom? I don't know. Maybe its the packaging. Starbucks is very clever with their advertising, never letting it become too widespread or to passe, but retaining a huge corner of the market at the same time. I'm no Marxist, I'm not even a socialist, but I get tired of ads and advertising companies jamming their products down my face all the time. From now on, I swear to only buy independent coffee, from locally owned businesses. Jeez. My roomate works at Espresso News for crying out loud. [/end rant]
